The American Legion is the nation’s largest, most influential, effective and dependable advocate of veteran affairs. Since 1919, Legionnaires have fought for the rights of servicemen and women. Today we stand as 2.4 million members with over 144,000 Legionnaires from The Department of Pennsylvania.

“Active” American Legion Membership Eligibility Dates

 If you have served with the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard which is *active duty (Title 10) with honorable service during these congressionally approved eligible war eras. *Reserves/Guardsman if no Title 10 mobilized service during these periods, your “Basic” training conducted “during” any of these periods counts.  For current Active duty/Reserves/Guardsman your basic training DD Form 214, DA Form 1059 or equivalency Certificate will suffice.


World War I April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918

World War II December 7, 1941 – December 31, 1946

(US Merchant Marines (only eligibility) December 7, 1941 – August 15, 1945)

Korea June 25, 1950 – January 31, 1955

Vietnam February 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975

Lebanon & Grenada August 24, 1982 – July 31, 1984

Panama December 20, 1989 – January 31, 1990

Gulf War/War on Terrorism August 2, 1990 – *present

(*until a Congressional cutoff period is announced)

Applying for membership: Complete membership Application (available at Legion) and attach a copy of your DD Form 214 reflecting honorable service (black out your ssn#).

►At the Post (Bar tender): $26 cash or check payable to “American Legion Post 626”.

►By Mail:  $26 check payable to “American Legion Post 626”:

Active Members: Membership cards are good for the calendar year in which issued, but the Legion starts the next year’s membership drive on July 1st every year. Renewal payments can be made by mail or at the Social Quarters.  Meeting dates are Posted in entrance (usually every other month on the 2nd Tuesday at 6pm upstairs).

Member of another Post? Transfer forms available at social quarters-attach a copy of your current membership card. (No money due unless membership had expired)
